As we all know, laptop has their own keyboards, however, many users still connect an external keyboard to their laptop. Why? How to add a keyboard to the laptop? And what should we do if the external keyboard is not working on laptop?

Part 1: Why Do We Need to Attach a Keyboard to Laptop?

  • What is external keyboard? The external keyboard has more styles and feels better, especially for gamers, the  feel of keyboard is their priority;
  • Some people need to use the laptop keyboard for a long time, such as writers, editors, etc. Due to the characteristics of the laptop's own structural design, the user will feel their wrist hurts, and using an external keyboard can reduce the stimulation of the user's wrist;
  • Using an external keyboard can keep the user and laptop screen at a certain distance to protect eyesight;
  • It is a disaster to use a laptop keyboard in summer or in a hot environment because the heat inside the laptop will dissipate through the keyboard gap and the heat will eventually get on your hands. But using an external keyboard will not have such annoyance.
  • Using an external keyboard can also protect your laptop keyboard as well as extend the life (the cost of a laptop keyboard is usually higher than that of an external keyboard). When you want to sell your laptop, a clean laptop keyboard will make your laptop easier to sell.

A.The way of connecting wired keyboard to laptop

1.Prepare a new keyboard;

2.Insert the keyboard interface into the USB port of the laptop, wait for 1~2 minutes patiently;

3.and let the keyboard automatically install the USB driver;

4.Now, you can use your external keyboard.

B.The way of connecting wireless keyboard to laptop

The wireless connection usually uses the USB interface or Bluetooth function of the laptop. Both keyboards generally need to be equipped with a battery for the keyboard cable, because the laptop cannot supply power to the external keyboard.

1.The Way of Connecting Ordinary Wireless Keyboard

It’s very easy to connect an ordinary wireless keyboard.Just install the battery of the keyboard, and then plug the receiver into theUSB port of the laptop. The computer will automatically recognize the device,which is similar to the USB connection of the wired keyboard.

2.How to Connect Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard

Method 1:

2.Right click on the Bluetooth icon on the desktop task bar and click “Add a Bluetooth Device”.

Usually we don't open Bluetooth, and that is why we can't see the Bluetooth icon in the task bar. Then we have to use another method - the control panel adding method.

  • Check whether the laptop USB interface is loose and there is any foreign object inside;
  • Check whether the driver installed:

  • Right click on “This PC” and click “Manage”;
  • Find “Device Manager” in the pop-up window, click on it, and find“Keyboard” in the interface on the right. If there is more than one device init, unplug the external device. Right click on the remaining device and select"Update Driver Software";
  • Select the second item in the pop-up window;
  • In the pop-up window, remove the check box. Select another brand of drivers in the driver list and click "Next" to complete.

Conclusion:

For some notebook users, connecting a desktop keyboard is redundant. Because they are used to the feel of the laptop keyboard, and the new keyboard takes up space, making the workbench look crowded, and the extra cost is also important.But in my opinion, if you want to experience a better keyboard feeling, adding keyboard to laptop is a worthwhile solution. In addition, it can protect your laptop keyboard, protect your vision, and reduce stimulation of your wrist and so on.
